Item Influence of selected school operations on the management of students’ discipline in public secondary schools in Embu East sub-county, Kenya(Chuka University, 2025-10) Gitonga, Nkatha LizarManagement of students’ discipline is a crucial component in creating a positive learning environment in school by promoting acceptable behavior and ensuring adherence to rules and regulations. While various factors influence the management students’ discipline in public secondary school, the influence of school operations on the management of students’ discipline remains to be a concern. This study sought to investigate the influence of selected school operations on the management of students’ discipline in public secondary schools in Embu East Sub-County. Specifically, the study examined the influence of administrative communication, management of student records, management of school facilities, and safety and surveillance measures on the management of students’ discipline. A descriptive survey research design was adopted. The target population consisted of 4,457 individuals, which consisted of principals, deputy principals, teachers and students from public secondary schools in Embu East Sub-County. A sample of 354 respondents was selected, comprising 4 principals, 4 deputy principals, 107 teachers and 239 students. The study employed purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling techniques. Piloting was conducted in Embu West Sub-County, using 10% of the sample size consisting 1 principal, deputy principal 10 teachers and 23 students, a total of 35 respondents. Cronbach’s alpha of 0.9 was yielded indicating acceptable reliability. The face validity was ensured by reviewing the measurement techniques by an expert from the Department of Education, Chuka University, while content validity was ensured by evaluating each individual question on the instrument to ensure each target characteristic was covered by the instrument. Data was collected using questionnaires for teachers and students while interview schedules for principals and deputy principals. Quantitative data was analyzed using frequencies, standard deviation, mean and chi square with the help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 29. Qualitative data from interviews was analyzed using thematic analysis. The results were presented in tables and percentages for clarity. The study findings show a statistically significant relationship between the selected school operations and the management of students’ discipline in public secondary schools in Embu East Sub County. The findings may assist education stakeholders in developing strategies to improve management of students’ discipline and create a positive school climate for learning and attainment of school educational goals. The study conclusions are expected to be helpful to principals, deputy principals and teachers in designing more effective approaches for shaping students’ discipline. The study recommends that school administrators, enhance the effectiveness of institutional operations influencing student’s discipline by reinforcing administrative communication, student’s record management, facilities management and safety and surveillance measures.
