Ecological restoration of pastoral landscapes in the drylands of East Africa
(Journal of Dryland Agriculture, 2021-01-26)
The East African drylands cover about 47% of the land surface and host about 20 million people. Rural
people living in the drylands are mainly pastoralists who depend on livestock for both economic and
social well-being. ...
Spinel ferrites gas sensors: a review of sensing parameters, mechanism and the effects of ion substitution
(Taylor & Francis Group, LLC, 2021-09-03)
There is an increasing demand of highly sensitive, stable and highly selective gas sensors to
detect toxic gases. This is inspired by the need to monitor the concentration of these gases
in order to guarantee humans, ...
Salmonella enterica Serovar Typhimurium Interacts with CD209 Receptors To Promote Host Dissemination and Infection
(American Society for Microbiology, 2019-07-23)

Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, a Gram-negative bacterium, can cause infectious diseases ranging from gastroenteritis to systemic dissemination and infection. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying this bacterial dissemination have yet to be elucidated. A study indicated that using the lipopolysaccharide (LPS) core as a ligand, S. Typhimurium was able to bind human dendritic cell-specific intercellular adhesion molecule-3-grabbing nonintegrin (hCD209a), an HIV receptor that promotes viral dissemination by hijacking antigen-presenting cells (APCs). In this study, we showed that S. Typhimurium interacted with CD209s, leading to the invasion of APCs and potentially the dissemination to regional lymph nodes, spleen, and liver in mice. Shielding of the exposed LPS core through the expression of O-antigen reduces dissemination and infection. Thus, we propose that similar to HIV, S. Typhimurium may also utilize APCs via interactions with CD209s as

Characteristics of Waste Pickers in Nakuru and Thika Municipal Dumpsites in Kenya
(Journal of Applied Science and Technology, 2019-08-21)
Dumpsite waste picking is prevalent in many developing countries of which Kenya is one. Waste
pickers play an important role in waste recycling by recovering and providing materials to the waste
recycling industry.

A likelihood ratio test for correlated paired multivariate samples
(Chilean Statistical Society, 2020-04)
Many laboratory experiments in the fields of biological sciences usually involve two main
groups say the healthy and infected subjects. In one of these kind of experiments, each
specimen from each group can be divided ...
Effect Of Electric Field In The Soil On The Germination And Growth Rate Of Rosecoco Beans Plant
(Research journali, 2020-01)
This study shows the effect of electric field on the germination and growth of bean plants. Rose coco beans
was chosen because its growing rate is fast and it’s a common food plant. An electric field was applied in the
soil ...
PLS Generalized Linear Regression and Kernel Multilogit Algorithm (KMA) for Microarray Data Classification Problem
(Revista Colombiana de Estadística - Applied Statistics, 2020)
This study involves the implentation of the extensions of the partial least
squares generalized linear regression (PLSGLR) by combining it with logistic
regression and linear discriminant analysis, to get a partial least ...
Food Rheology using Dynamic Mechanical Analysis; A short review
(Paul Kamweru, 2020-02)
An ideal elastic material will deform finitely and recover its original shape and size upon the
removal of the applied deforming load. On the other hand an ideal fluid will deform and continue
to deform as long as the ...
